So which screenplay is Rihanna considering for her next movie?

Any suggestions as to the best role for her?

How about a doctor in an emergency room?

A new detective on the homicide squad?

An alien meeting the Star Trek crew?

The female companion for Dr Who or James Bond?

No, please, not a pop star fighting against drink and drugs overdoses… it’s been done to death.

Would she fit in well with an updated version of Pride and Prejudice?

The fall of the Roman Empire; another updated Cleopatra?

Rumors suggest she’ll be in the next Fast and Furious. Sounds like an obvious match.

As the years roll on, there are fewer and fewer songs listed in the category – Music (original song) – why? This year’s Oscars™ listed just two songs:

“Man or Muppet” from “The Muppets,” music and lyrics by Bret McKenzie
“Real in Rio,” from “Rio,” music by Sergio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown; lyrics by Siedah Garrett

Two! Is that all the Academy people could find from a year that saw hundreds of new movies released, even if it did include over 30 franchised options ending with wonderful titles such as 2, 3 or 4.

How on this small planet of ours did the best song released in a movie arrive in a Muppet movie and take home the small statue? While Hollywood’s current plans are to release plenty of action movies and almost no musicals it doesn’t appear feasible that only two songs were making the standard to race off against only each other to life the trophy. Just think, songwriters, if you had written one song for a movie in 2011, you had a one in three chance of winning. Just being listed would have helped your CD sales and downloads.

In the original score department, five were listed:

“The Adventures of Tintin,” John Williams
“The Artist,” Ludovic Bource
“Hugo,” Howard Shore
“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” Alberto Iglesias
“War Horse” John Williams

Veteran John Williams gave himself a 2 in 5 chance of winning. He found himself up against three quality writers.

Ludovic Bource won the respect this year, but his need to fill the theatre with his score was heightened as he was playing second line to a silent movie. He didn’t have to compete with actors or directors to have total command of the audience’s senses. This may have gained him a distinct tactical advantage.

For an actor, you live or die in your performance, by your ability to learn your lines.

For a stage actor this means learning an entire performance. For the television or movie actor you only have to learn sufficient to get you through the day’s filming, with cue cards at hand for those with short memories.

It’s a skill that needs to be learned and comes naturally over the course of time. The skill to learn by rote was probably formed at around the age of 4 when you first tried to recollect the alphabet.

The question often posed is whether lines are easier to remember if they are written by a brilliant screenplay writer or are short and poorly broken sentences better?

If you are rooted to the spot on stage halfway through a two-hour performance you may have to rely on colleagues to gently nudge you in the right direction. Fortunately, you can change a few of the words and only your fellow actors will know that the writer’s script has been altered for just one performance.

For the movie actor, you only need memorise the lines to get you through until the director calls ‘cut’ and go for a second or fifteenth take if any of your chosen words have disappeared.

Actors do gain a reputation based upon their memories and the ability to produce the right lines time after time. Unfortunately, an adverse reputation may be forthcoming to an actor who regularly stumbles over short paragraphs.

There are many different methods actors choose to learn their lines. What works best for you?

When you put yourself up for sale after being made redundant, you might not expect worldwide coverage, but Being Sold is the idea behind this high quality UK movie.

It won best Film and Best Actor at the 2011 London Independent Film Festival. It was filmed in just two days in the South of Manchester. Some of the film’s profits will go to Amnesty International.

With a cast list having Christopher Dane as John Foster and also stars Eva Pope and Lee Boardman, the movie can gain a good following quickly. Even the cameo appearances from Gordon Burns, Dan Morgan, Lesley Joseph, Terry Christian and Roy Walker don’t distract from the film’s flow adding even further fan following via Twitter and Facebook.

Jessica Blake, as news reporter Maia Long, brings a small story to the greater worldwide audience – in the screenplay. The film examines how a story can grow from almost nothing to become a global phenomenon.

Photographer Nick Trupin has found a great way to distribute his documentary ‘In-sight.’ He’s signed up to Distrify.com, a relatively new online distribution service.

On his website, 779, he explains how he has found a way to have his 38minute street photography film make him money, providing funds to boost his next project.

Filmmakers Peter Gerard and Andy Green started Distrify. They combine social media with streaming video. Customers can choose to watch a trailer, buy the HD downloadable film or rent it to watch up to five times over 30 days. Paypal is in use throughout the website meaning more people have an opportunity to log in and pay easily.

Nick made £800 (US$1240) in his first ten days.

This source opens up a great channel for indie film makers. You won’t find Hollywood filmmakers moving to this outlet, but Terry Gilliam (former Monty Python inmate) is showing his film – on Distrify. If it’s good enough for him, it’s plenty good enough for anyone.

If the movie doesn’t show up on your first click, try reloading the page and hey presto.
