Warner Bros lost their court case in India today. Their lawsuit was against the makers of Bollywood film, Hari Puttar.
Hari is a popular name in India and Puttar means ‘son’ in Hindi and Punjabi.
The court decided that Warner had waited too long to report their claim to the likeness of the title to those of their own Harry Potter franchise, written by J K Rowling.
Mirchi Movies, the makers of the Indian film, will now be able to release their movie.
Hari Puttar tells the story of a 10-year-old boy who moves to England with his family and becomes caught up in a plan to save the world.
Clearly, the plot isn’t anything like a J K Potter movie.
I thought I’d write a screenplay and call it ‘Starr Warz’ and have it tell the story of a 10-year-old boy who moves to England with his family and becomes caught up in a plan to save the world.
Okay, I was just joking. I wouldn’t want the wait, the delay in releasing the film and the time in court, but the publicity could be great for PR
I also wouldn’t want to upset Warner Bros and the whole of India in one go.
Can you suggest any other titles?
