I need a 7 inch tablet computer

News & Updates

The question is really why do I need a 7 inch tablet computer? I use a desktop computer for writing and a netbook for those times when I’m out of my office.

I have already researched the market – an excuse for visiting stores and playing with their tablet computers – and have concluded that a 7 inch model more meets my requirements than a 10 inch model. The reasoning behind this is clear; I have pockets that might just take a smaller version, but none that could hold a 10 inch form.

The results are muddled because of those computer companies making 8 inch and 9 inch models, but as my pockets will only stretch to seven inches, the medium sized computers will stay in the store.

When to buy, is the real question, because you know that before you have even unboxed your new gadget, a competitor, or even worse, the same company, will release a new model – out in a couple of weeks – that is more powerful, performs new tricks you cannot live without and will no doubt be $50 less at the register.

So which one? The Samsung Galaxy Tab looks like an excellent choice, especially with V2 on the way soon, but it is expensive compared to some of the opposition. Amazon’s Kindle is a great price, but the second model will be out of the starting blocks quite soon so it is perhaps best to wait a while.

Asus Eee’s Pad MeMo has put together an impressive selection of specifications, but they haven’t given a release date yet.

Rumors suggest that Apple will bring out a smaller version of the iPad later this year, so should I wait?

After all, I only need, yes need the tablet computer to keep me up to date with football scores while I am watching a match on the television to save me moving from the safety of my sofa to my office so I won’t miss a goal.

Perhaps I can invest time in trying to convince myself and those at home, that the need will be extended to writing the next novel or screenplay on the tablet. What do you use your tablet for?
