4 stars****

This movie proves something; you don’t need giant stars to make a movie extremely watchable. Here almost completely unknowns (okay they do have a back catalogue) help us sit back, turn off the brain cells and laugh out loud for a full ninety minutes.

So what’s it all about?

An airport security guard gets involved with a girl who’s very obviously of a higher caliber than himself, and schemes to make the relationship last as his friends and family watch along in disbelief. Kirk (Jay Baruchel) was languishing in a dead-end job as an airport security agent when he somehow managed to earn the affections of the successful and drop-dead gorgeous Molly (Alice Eve). Even Kirk isn’t exactly sure what Molly sees in him, though he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make the relationship work. With his friends, family, and ex-girlfriend all watching stunned from the sidelines, Kirk discovers that he’ll have to work overtime in order to convince Molly that he’s worth hanging on to.

The screenplay by Sean Anders and John Morris provides an excellent format for the directors and actors to brings the jokes to the big screen. I knew, that after I read the screenplay, that this could make a very funny movie. Unusually, this is what happened. Often a funny script is presented in a toned down manner that you have to hunt for the laughs; yes, you’ve seen them all in the trailer. That was not the case here.

Timing and delivery and the lifeblood of quality comedians; here the cast have this in abundance.

Alice Eve (who we’ll all see a lot more of soon, especially if we’re Sex and the City 2 bound) is particularly warm as a hot ten, but without the audience believing she’s one of those hot tens we wouldn’t actually want to date.

Of course the geek rarely gets the hot ten girl, or vice versa, but we can lose our believability factor in this movie and it doesn’t affect the way we feel about the screenplay.
