Screenplay writers will have heard of the need to copyright their work, often because they’re paranoid that unscrupulous individuals may wish to steal their work. It does happen, but it’s rare. Go and Google copyright theft and you won’t find too many live and proved cases. The real problem is after your screenplay has been produced into a movie on DVD or via internet download; that’s when the real copyright theft hurts you the most, because you won’t get paid a cent on illegal bootlegging scams.

So who did write that script? Did the writer actually write the script or did someone else put pen to paper for them as a scriptwriter for hire and the ‘so called’ author just attached their name to the project?

This couldn’t really happen, could it?

I know from experience that it can. There’s a film in production just now for which I wrote the synopsis and detailed treatment. The director concerned hired me as a writer to present a complete set of writing for them. The person in question then scribed their name to the project and it is now their copyright. They hired me and the contract stated the outcome, which is why no-one will ever know, from me, the name of the screenplay or the movie. That’s the deal they wanted so that’s the deal they got.

I was very pleased with the final version as it was in a subject field that I knew so little about, but the research brought many revelations and made the whole project so enjoyable. It was a screenplay to be proud of, but it won’t win me an award.

Ghost-writing is known more in the field of biographies and sometimes novels. British celebrity Jordon (Katie Price) has just admitted that she has the ideas for her novels and then asks someone else to actually perform the writing that ends up in print. You can go and read about this if you click this link http://www.sharonhh.com/jordan-gives-thumbs-up-to-ghostwriting/ at the Sharon Hurley Hall website.

If you’d like to know more about ghost-writing then the best place to start is by clicking this link http://getpaidtowriteonline.com/ then click on the ghostwriting link and you’ll find yourself in a wonderful achive collection of ghost writing mentoring and information.

I hope the film I can’t mention is a success as I can’t wait to write the follow up. It’s not a franchise as such, but we can make it that way! I’ll be able to charge extra the more the movie is a success.

Alternatively I am available as a writer of screenplays and theatre plays, for hire, but I might not be available when you want me if you’re not quick enough.
