How Cinematographers Revolutionized Television

The look of television has changed dramatically over the years. From the classic multi-cam sitcom broadcast look of the 1950s to the cinematic drama look of today, the lines between cinema and television seem to blur more and more.

What’s the biggest reason for this stylistic change? Cinematographers. Television cinematography has changed the entire look of modern television. Before TV shows were shot mostly with broadcast video cameras – they had that “TV look”. Now, TV shows, especially dramas, are largely shot on cinema cameras like the Arri Alexa Mini or even 35mm movie cameras.

Going over topics like gritty lighting and deep shadows, lens choices and more, Benny from the A-Team discusses the history of television cinematography and how it’s evolved to have a much more cinematic look.

Stay tuned to the end for a chance to win a prize!
