What do light output terms like lumens, lux, and foot candles, even mean? By being able to speak the language of light output, and knowing the difference between lumens, lux, and foot candles, you will able to up your cinematic lighting game.

“Lumens” is a measurement of a light sources raw light output and is not particularly relevant to filmmaking. Meanwhile, lux and foot-candles are the metric and imperial measures of how much light hits a subject at a given distance, and are more important for creative cinematography.
