Melting Piston t-shirt:
When I was first getting into video, I watched every camera gear video I could find. I studied the equipment my heroes were using and I bought everything they said I “needed.”
Over time, all that crap becomes a burden. Having to lug it around everywhere and baby it while you are traveling. Lately, I’ve been trying to make videos with as little gear as possible. I’ve developed some techniques or life hacks that replace expensive sliders, stabilizers, and gimbals.
All of the movements I show in the video took a lot of practice, so don’t feel discouraged if you don’t get perfectly smooth footage on the first try. I look at each shot and ask myself, does this three second clip really necessitate a $500 gimbal? Or can I get a “good enough” result by faking it. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
