Great sounding videos are fun to watch. We might think that it is all about the video, but your professional voice-over will make all the difference!
Many laptops have a build-in microphone. This microphone might be good enough for Skype, but for a youtube movie it is not. If at all possible use an external microphone, even if it is a cheap headphone/microphone combination.Should you go for a usb-microphone or a microphone with a pre-amp? It depends on your budget. And the amount of hardware you are willing to live with. Having a separate pre-amp and a microphone on a microphone-stand will probably sound better, but it might be more expensive, and it is definitely a lot of stuff to have around the house

How to Capture High Quality Audio for Low Budget Films
As filmmakers, we have to be constantly aware of our audio — especially for documentary work, as there are no retakes.
DSLRs have the capacity to capture great video. However, capturing audio is a completely different story. A better solution would be to utilize a Zoom H1, Zoom H6 or Tascam DR-40 with a Rode NTG2. You can then use the scratch track audio from the camera to help sync up the field recorder audio in a program like PluralEyes 3.5. Here is a video from createasphere on how to shoot using a dual audio system with a DSLR.
DSLR cameras such as the Canon 70D are inexpensive yet provide amazing picture quality. What they don’t give you is decent sound recording. The attached microphones just are not equipped to give you anything but basic audio. Even if you purchase an external microphone to plug into the auxiliary jack, you will not be able to get proper placement of the microphone. In other words, the mic is simply pointing the same direction as the camera and from the same distance. This does not allow for control over sound recording.as a filmmaker, pay attention to your film’s audio needs as well as the visual ones. Sound design can add a whole other dimension to your final production that complements the cinematography, and approaching it in every stage of production as an important piece of the puzzle will elevate your work. Give it the proper care and attention that you would to lighting, casting, wardrobe, and every other element. Remember that no one notices good sound—it only stands out when it’s done poorly.
