Just plug the Apple Lightning to Camera adapter into your iPhone 7 – iPhone X lightning port, plug the Sabrent USB adapter into the USB port, then plug your microphone into the microphone port on the Sabrent.

Lately, I’ve found myself needing a super-portable video rig that I can use for filmmaking when I don’t have my DSLR and all of my audio gear with me. The challenge was finding a set up that is both compact and portable that can also capture great audio in different situations.

I recently found a number of special connectors which made it easy to connect my Rode VideoMic Pro to the iPhone 6s Plus (which can shoot 4K and has built-in video stabilization) as well as being able to connect my Sennheiser EW112p G3 wireless lavalier microphones.

By adding the Manfrotto PIXI EVO and the GRIPT mount, I now have the ability to either film from a stable platform or to hand-hold the iPhone with relative stability.

So far, I love this combination.

The only challenge I’ve encountered is in post-production because the iPhone shoots in VFR (variable frame rate) when there are significant changes in light and editors like Adobe Premier CC don’t do well with VFR clips (the audio ends up out of sync with the video). The traditional fix has been to process the iPhone clips through Handbrake (changing the output to constant frame rate). But, I found a much faster solution – just upload the clip to Wistia.com and then download the processed clip which will be at a constant frame rate and ready for editing in Adobe Premiere.
