KARBALA –(THE JOURNEY OF LOVE)
ARBAEEN WALK (FROM NAJAF TO KARBALA)
Some journeys not only teach us, but leave a mark in our spirits. These feelings cannot be explained, until we are at the doors of our masters.
The journey to Karbala from Najaf is one such journey. Here, I realized, that even the widest angle of my camera lens was too narrow to capture the spirit of the people on this journey.
Karbala is a journey where everyone desires to reach their master. The message of millions of Muslims coming together to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) is a far reaching social and political one for all the powers of the world and for everyone to know that Islam strives for order and love, for peace, spirituality and understanding.
Our 6th Imam (AS) Imam Jaffer Sadiq (AS) narrates, “ When a visitor (Zaair), leaves his/her place on foot or on a mount, towards the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), Allah (S.W.T) sends down 4000 angels who send salutations upon him/her until he/she reaches the grave of Imam Hussein (a.s).”
A journey of 80km- 90km from Najaf to Karbala takes around 3 days by foot. This journey is filled with life changing experiences. Throughout the journey, I saw people serving the visitors of Imam Hussein (AS) in their own unique ways and abilities; be it massaging their feet, cooling them with refreshing water, cleaning their shoes, providing them with food, water, tea and every possible service for the sake of their master Hussein (a.s). One can witness hope, love, kindness, truth and sacrifice where every visitor is honored irrespective of race, cast, color or creed. Why? Because Imam Hussein (a.s) has won hearts and inspires people to have compassion to one and all.
After my walk to Karbala from Najaf I sincerely prayed to Almighty Allah (SWT) to bless each one of us to visit the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) and to experience this journey of Love which cannot be described in any way short of personal experience, and for those who have already been there to be blessed again to visit the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS). (AMEEN).
