‘Trumbo’ leads SAG movie awards nominations

A film about Hollywood not surprisingly proved very popular with the Screen Actors Guild this year.

Trumbo, the biopic of 1940s blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, leads the movie field with three nominations for the 22nd annual SAG Awards. The ceremony airs live Jan. 30 from Los Angeles on TNT and TBS (8 p.m. ET/5 PT).

Bryan Cranston, who stars as Trumbo, is up for lead actor, and Helen Mirren was nominated in the supporting female actor category (and lead actress for Woman In Gold). The movie, directed by Jay Roach, is also up for best cast in a motion picture alongside Beasts of No Nation, The Big Short, Spotlight and Straight Outta Compton.

Steve Jobs, Spotlight, Room, Carol, The Danish Girl and Beasts of No Nation each received two nominations each, while in the TV categories Game of Thrones came up big with three nominations, including lead actor for Peter Dinklage and best drama ensemble.
